Summer List (See Jane Plan)
Every year once summertime rolls around, I mentally make lists of activities, festivals and places I want to try. This time, I’m putting it out in the open–more so to hold myself accountable. I have lots of grand plans and now that I have a job where I’m not constantly out of town, I may be able to do more than usual.
hanging in the Côte d’Azur two summers ago |
Make my own ice cream
Rent a lakehouse for a weekend
Visit a midwestern winery* (Michigan, perhaps?)
Ride a bike on the lake
Take a mini roadtrip to a place I’ve never been*
Go to yoga in the park
Join a food co-op for fresh and local vegetables weekly*
Thank you all so much for your support of the Everygirl feature! Also, be sure to check out a little photoshoot I did of Jan for my friend’s fitness blog.
*Suggestions welcome!
I love this list – I need to get down to compiling my own for this summer. I like your idea of visiting a Midwestern winery – Though California really reigns supreme in the US, I've really enjoyed discovering random wineries in NC and Virginia.
Awesome pic btw – makes me want to get in the water stat.

I love how short and sweet your summer list is! Mine is over 75 things long… And you should definitely come visit Michigan! I can't personally vouch for our wineries though.

What a great idea! I feel that I constantly say I am going to go here and there and then never do!
That ocean looks amazing! Great picture!
re: road trip – have you ever been to Toronto or Montreal? Come visit us up here. 🙂

I love this list! I definitely need to make one myself.
LOVE that photo! I want to be there! 🙂
I'm part of a Community Shared Agriculture (CSA) farm in my community. I love love love it. I get a box of veggies (mostly organic) and a box of fruit every week. It's such an adventure to learn to cook everything in new and exciting ways!
You should visit Traverse City for wineries in Michigan and consider Mackinaw Island while in Michigan.
There are quite a few wineries in South West Michigan that are good and close to Chicago. Tabor Hill (they have a really great restaurant as well) and Round Barn are two at the top of my head. Both are very good!
What a great idea to right them down and post them to your blog… talk about accountability. Bring on the summer sun!
I highly recommend the Green Grocer in Chicago for doing a weekly veggie share. They're so nice and knowledgeable and the veggies are always delicious!

You should go to South Haven, MI and visit this winery http://www.warnerwines.com South Haven is a cute little Lake Michigan town with great beaches, cute shops, bed and breakfasts, and good eats. It's a fun and very laid back. Great for a weekend getaway!
I second the vote for Tabor Hill! St. Julian is a favorite, but Fenn Valley takes the cake for me. They have amazing events in the vineyard as well!
Southwest Michigan has a wine trail you can follow, which links several wineries in the area. There are even shuttle services you can hire so you can drink and not worry about driving.
This is a great list! I recently joined a CSA and am so excited to have vegetables delivered weekly.
I think it's great that so many of your summer goals have to do with being healthy and enjoying the great outdoors!

That's a great list! Michigan does have tons of cute wineries! How far of a road trip are you guys looking for?
oh wow… i think i wanna do everything on your list as well!
I just made my summer to do list too! I might have to add the homemade ice cream one to mine. YUM. 🙂

You should rent a lake house in Michigan on one of the Great Lakes, there is no place like Michigan beaches. I personally love Lake Michigan!
Great list! I'm always writing lists like this one in spring, but then somehow they disappear and I totally forget about half of the stuff. 🙂

Wonderful and Marvelous
I live across the lake in sw MI wine country…I would stay in either New Buffalo or Saint Joseph…both of which put you right in the heart of it all with plenty to do. Let me know if I can help you plan your trip. Would be happy to make further suggestions…
go back to the Cote d'Azur! im living here now its incredible! yoga in the park sounds amazing, maybe do it on the beach as well!
Omg I am jealous!

These are some wonderful ideas – but if you're going to make your own ice cream, you better remember that sharing is caring (ehem, I'll send you my address).

Go to Traverse City, MI!
Amazing wine, food, and views! (If you go, you Must eat at Trattoria Stella. They source all their food locally and the menu changes daily. It is amazing.)
I'm totally in for yoga in the park if you'd like company! It's on my summer to do list as well.
This sounds wonderful!

I've been putting together a summer (and foodie) list too.. and you just reminded me that I need to add make my own ice cream to the list. We got an ice cream maker for a wedding present and I want to finally use it!
And oh my goodness that water is such a gorgeous color! x
That picture looks like a dream and the ocean looks so gorgeous that it looks fake! These are great goals for summer =)
I did zumba in Millenium Park last year. I loved it! Thanks for reminding me. I'll have to add it to my summer bucket list (which, coincidentally was my post today!) – J
instead of michigan, maybe consider wisconsin – specifically the madison area.
wollersheim winery (http://www.wollersheim.com/) is 30 minutes out of town and the wine is awesome (prairie fume, their specialty, is one of my favorite whites in the summer).
and madison is fantastic – tons of great restaurants, a great farmers' market every saturday morning, lakes, good biking, beer, cheese, etc, etc. – and it's only 2 hours from chicago.
Such a good list — hooray for homemade ice cream!

I live in Chicago – I love the produce and meats from Irv & Shelly's Fresh Picks.

I made my own list a few days ago and I love the idea of making your own ice cream!! I'll be adding that one to mine! 🙂
Michigan wineries are great! I recommend the Old Mission wineries or the Leelanau Peninsula wineries near Traverse City. My friends and I just rented a fabulous cottage on Big Glen Lake for the weekend–check it out here: http://fisherscottages.com/glen-lake-log-home/
I'm a big fan of the blog!
go to michigan!!! for a winery, or for any ole visit! my homestate is the bestest EVER 😀
I would definitely suggest heading to Northern Michigan to visit wineries! Old Mission Peninsula north of Traverse City is known for their great selection of local wineries and it is possible to do a wine tour! I'm from this area and must say it's the perfect place to visit in the summer. It wasn't voted the most beautiful place in America for nothing! 🙂
of course I'm going to strongly encourage you to come stay with me for a weekend in Des Moines – there's a handful of wineries anywhere from 5-30 minutes away from me! YES – do it! 🙂
Try lunch at Tabor Hill winery followed by one of the summer fests with bands at Round Barn Winery – so much fun!
We like Lemon Creek winery also.

Not sure if you have a yoga studio in mind already, but Moksha is doing a series this summer that's free yoga for everyone at different festivals and stuff. I did the fire jam one a couple weeks back at Foster beach, it was so fun! hit up their website at http://www.mokshayoga.com Have fun!
Forget Michigan! You need to head south to Bloomington, IN, and go to Oliver Winery! (OK, maybe I"m biased because I went to IU and I've been to Oliver about a million times.) But really, it's great. And Bloomington itself is beautiful too, especially in the summer when there aren't so many students.

Yes! Michigan winery! I'm from Michigan…I'd recommend you try Traverse City. They are known for various wine tasting events and it's gorgeous up there in the summer.
